An uncertain and difficult market environment means frequent changes for pharmaceutical companies, and recently many of the larger players have had to implement extensive redundancies. The number of sales reps in the UK pharmaceutical sector has dropped by one third in recent years. The UK is one of the biggest markets for healthcare products in Europe, but is the riskiest with the NHS as the one dominant customer. The era of secure employment is over. Flexible resource, such as that provided by contract sales organisations, is essential to ensure that opportunities are maximised at acceptable risk levels.
